I always had a strong negative reaction at a gut level to ABA, without knowing its origins.

A commonly used autism intervention is Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapy, pioneered by Ivaar Lovaas, who developed those same techniques into conversion therapy. Both therapies are horrifying. You can't make gay people straight, and you can't make autistic people not autistic.
