The cities in Texas are often fairly liberal. But in state and national level politics that fact gets outweighed by how much of the state is rural republican. Horrible gerrymandering doesn’t help.

I know. I lived in Austin during grad school and loved it. I lived in Harker Heights many years later when stationed at Fort Hood. Loved it as well. I didn’t look at the Texas GOP unkindly until more recently, when the grift and corruption became unmistakably apparent.

Austin, the capital, is very liberal; small towns and settlements, not so much. I lived 30 minutes east of downtown, Austin, for five years and participated in state politics. But texans, who are told the truth and decide based on facts, often make the right decision.

I went to grad school in Austin; loved it. Many years later, I was stationed at Fort Hood (now called something else until Hegseth changes it again); loved it there as well. But I have no regard for Abbott, Paxton, and the GOP-controlled legislature. Smarmy as all get-out! Hope wisdom prevails!
