IMO the key is that it's kind of Rick's movie, he has the most to do. If you don't love Rick Moranis, you probably won't love Spaceballs. That's how it is in my house, anyway, I like Rick a lot, my wife's a little more reserved on him, and we're the same on Spaceballs.
