1. Call 911 and report that some armed unidentified individuals appear to be impersonating law enforcement, and 2. Don’t rely on WiFi cameras if WiFi can be disrupted by unscrupulous LEOs.

Based on the linked article, it's unclear to me if ICE actually was jamming his wifi network or if the outage was just a coincidence.

If they are, in fact, using wifi jamming, your best defense is going to be cameras that are hardwired.

More likely, I think, is that the cops had his ISP disconnect his uplink temporarily. His wifi would have remained on, but without an internet connection for the Ring camera to save its camera feed to the cloud. A camera with local network or onboard storage would be OK.

You think random ICE agents doing door knocks have that level of capability? Calling up an ISP to get a warrantless disconnection of an individual's internet connection?

I don't doubt that's theoretically possible, but seems pretty far-fetched in this case.

Occam's razor would seem to point to the brownshirts just carrying around a cheap wifi jammer that they bought online.

I've no doubt the ISPs would collaborate with ICE, but not without the requisite paperwork. Purely from an ass-covering perspective.

Absent more conclusive evidence that ICE is collaborating with ISPs, I think it's a pretty big leap to assume they used that specific mechanism to disable his network.

One of the brownshirts walking over to the home run on the side of his house and unscrewing the cable feels much more likely to me

Given the tight timebands of the disabling, I'm just trying to imagine the logistics involved.

Feels pretty farfetched to think they could just place a phone call to flip this guy's internet "off" and then back "on" again after they left.

Look I have no reason to doubt this man’s sincerity, but he seems out of his depth from a technical perspective.

Until we get more information, jumping to the conclusion that ISPs are collaborating with ICE seems a bit premature.

Definitely advice that will get someone sentenced to death and executed.

Castle Doctrine doesn’t apply to cops, identified or otherwise, and pretending there’s any court in Texas that would rule otherwise doesn’t help anyone.

Well, and like that article reads it’s very rare, and it was a surprising outcome, and the result of a grand jury deciding to no true bill a capital murder charge the prosecutor attempted to bring. Unsure that’d have flown in a courtroom with a judge and/or a petit jury, even with a white dude.

Don't even admit who you are to a stranger - they approach you, demand their identity first. They refuse, "Then you're trespassing, get off my property!" & call 911.
If you know you're at high risk, hopefully you have a friend with line of sight to your door you can make arrangements with, get...

...radios that work on a different frequency than cell phones & wifi - hopefully any jamming will be on a narrow band of frequencies so you can at least have somebody witness the events that's a little harder for them to identify.

Have a camera that saves to hardware memory rather than the cloud.
