Just another Twitter refugee looking for what we had there once upon a time. It's not going to be Mastodon or Post.News and probably not Threads, so let's see if we can't make this our home.

Do not laud this. This is a Bad Republican. Has he joined with Democrats in opposing a budget bill unless Trump agrees to reign in DOGE and respect the budgetary primacy of the First Branch? If not, he’s just another Susan Collins who is sensitive to his image and is not worthy of your respect.

We finally have an actual 1A question about social media and I’m wondering where the Twitter Files dupes are?

The collapse of Congress as a constitutional institution is inseparable from its degradation as a representative body, in that for the vast majority of seats, members are chosen by only one party's congressional primary voters, which is often only a single-digit percentage of the electorate.

How many federal workers would DOGE need to fire to make up for Musk not paying his fair share of taxes? Answer: 677,000. That's 44% of the entire non-DoD federal workforce. Again, this power grab is not about the budget. It’s about politics.

Ah, well, nevertheless.

Henry Adams: “Politics, as a practice, whatever its professions, has always been the systematic organization of hatreds.” The election was not about egg inflation. There was only one candidate who could credibly promise to hurt the people you hate, and he’s the one who became president

This is good stuff. This is exactly what we’ve been asking for. Call your representatives and tell them to keep it up. Attaboys work too!

3 possibilities: 1) Lag; It’s been a month. 2) The GOP has optimized their issue profile such that on the majority of their issues they are extremely unpopular but with low salience (e.g. 1/6 pardons) & they retain a handful of issues where they have a popular edge, which are all high salience.

Was just sent this by my father, who asked whether it was circulating On Here. I haven’t seen it yet, but while we wait for the damage DOGE is doing to start impacting public opinion, this seems as good a place as any to start sending a message.

I don’t recall having ever seen the magnitude of ratio on this Gov. Phil Murphy post about congestion pricing.

Tier List of things the media should cover: S-Tier: randos on Twitter demanding police defunding and the use of “Latinx.” Important, revealing, saturation coverage. C-Tier: President of the United States declaring himself king. Tedious, distracting, waste of time.

the trump White House posting a soothing video so its fans can (literally?) honk off to migrants getting sent to Gitmo etc in chains is the most “you don’t get to regret voting for this, this was on all the bumper stickers” shit

helluva thread from the hellsite about the comically bad “savings” doge claims to have found (sorry for the weirdly sized screenshots, I had to squeeze everything into only 4 of them)

Upon receiving the news that four of the City's Deputy Mayors have submitted their resignations, I sent the following letter to @nycmayor.

A bright spot over the coming years will be watching, as genuine Neo-Nazi antisemitism (not the “Palestinians are human” kind) starts pouring over the “reasonable, moderate hatred” spillway that Chait has spent his career keeping open, him screaming “no, not THOSE minorities, you’re doing it wrong!”

Plenty of people saying the same thing, but this is the idea, not the possible downside. It’s very likely that the only way to dislodge this authoritarian takeover is going to be a mass movement, and the best way of growing one is provoking violent and authoritarian overreaction by the state.
