As I've already mentioned, this wasn't a "mistake" or an "error". SARS-Cov-2 was already designated an aerosol after SARS 1 and MERS.
The change to droplets was coordinated across the US orbit in March 2020, as was clear from the recent UK Covid Inquiry.

The silly part is that by their own definition, "droposols" includes aerosols.

That's like declaring you've invented a new category which is a mixture of a carcinogen and something else, calling it a "semi-carcinogen" and claiming that means it's only dangerous for a half day in the afternoons.

Also we already know this is lies, from excellent research in animal models. I just found this one that shows that the median infectious dose for median size 1.3 μm aerosols is 30 times lower than for median 5.2 μm aerosols.

- travel <1m but also all the numbers that are >1m
- wait 15 minutes to go around a surgical mask (or N95, because who can tell the difference, really 🤷)
- then you suddenly need a PAPR
- are all possible sizes
- include big particles that make the small ones stop being aerosols

My Taiwanese colleagues and I submitted a patent application in April 2020 which included a method for detecting transmission of COVID via aerosols. Taiwanese scientists had already concluded this was a primary means of transmission

Guessing it's a typo for 1 micron, but I wouldn't totally rule out "deliberate ambiguity to allow the definition to be retroactively adjusted as convenient in future".

Obviously it would be totally inappropriate for this to be rolled into policy or guidance - so...keep an eye out...
