For textbooks the two biggest is using "He or She" a bunch instead of "They", in addition to Authors purposefully making their writings harder to read.
Grapes of Wrath was so annoying and slow to read. Ugh.
Also, typos infuriate me.

It does seem true with retirement or age that one becomes more distractible. Ugh.
