the college football playoff selection show is so good. it's like if the news began with 25 minutes of anchors talking to each other like "i'm looking forward to reporting the news. it will be very interesting to find out what the news will be"

I feel this way about the NFL draft. I have no idea how people watch that for hours. Different strokes/different folks and all, but this one baffles me
I can easily watch the nfl draft for upwards of two minutes before remembering that i can look up the results without subjecting myself to hours of filler
I put these things in “administrative events” category. drafts, combines, draft lotteries, group draws, etc. stuff that relies on constant promotion that no one who values their time should care about otherwise.
There is always the competition to see whether NFL or NCAA can waste more time on a game that does so little. Since fans happily watch games that are 10% actual game play and 90% filler, why not have selection shows be as terrible?
On the other hand, the March Madness Selection Show is the sports equivalent of Chris Hayes standing at the election wall going through swing states, county by county.

That's any sports programme. 😆
An hour of speculation, ninety minutes* of play and an hour or more of why they were wrong.
* may take five hours for American football
Sabin called it subjective in his first hit.
I guess they just made the math up as they went.
