i'm sure a lot of it is thermostatic but i am really hoping we didn't roll back decades of progress on public opinion of criminal justice reform and immigration in just 4 years

Since you're giving CA examples - prop 36 winning so big is depressing, but it's a pretty small change compared to the overall CJ system. It didn't repeal prop 47 & I doubt we're headed there
when you look at stuff like this it's just like i don't know we might've just lost the battle for a long time because of temporarily elevated crime and immigration. it's incredibly grim
Crime hasn't even elevated. The trend is that crime rates have returned to 2019 (pre covid) rates because there was such a decrease in crime due to lockdowns everyone is shitting their pants over literally nothing
the proposition was apparently said to have been written poorly, but, idk, it seemed easy to read for me. if true, we also have a literacy problem. if not, lol
It depends on crime level, law enforcement handling for CJR while how far deportation will be implied, illegal border crossing numbers for immigration.
However, Dems can't be seen soft/weak on those issue by swing voters.
Nah, nobody's even left to fight for criminal justice reform.
We still have a hope of holding on to immigration on the left though. I'm praying that the tide will turn on that after Trump actually gets into office again.
If mass deportations end up happening and the loss of immigrants has the negative effects many expect would happen, the silver lining might be that the fallout might shift public opinion to be more in favor of immigration and immigration reform
