And you know what? I still love 16-bit aesthetic. Iβd even go as far to suggest that a lot of SNES games have aged better than most PS1 and N64 games.
I like the HD-2D thing that Square has been doing recently, and I like how some indie games like Shovel Knight have gone back to pixel art
I still play PS2 games on a regular basis and the graphical quality has never been an issue for me. The gameplay and variety are what stands out for me.
Butting in! ππΌ
The PS4/5 version of SO3 is prone to crash if the map overlay is used but on PS5 in particular it is pretty safe so long as the map overlay feature isnβt used, I got platinum on PS5 (200+ hours) and the game crashed only twice πππΌ
yeah i was saying thatβs when we reached the peak when it comes to experimentation meets production quality/polish. There was no trade off, no compromise.
This is actually a GIF, the framerate was just that bad XD
I kid, I kid. I still think the PS2 was the end of the idea that you there were some games you just couldn't do on the hardware. Like you could make *A* version of any modern game and it'd be playable on PS2 without cutting features.
Given how hyperrealistic almost everything "has" to look today, I genuinely miss when games look game-y. Older graphic styles, PS2 included, are imo the pinnacle of that. I'm not saying modern games look bad, not at all. Just saying I'd take a modern AAA with PS2 graphics over another hyperrealism
Played through this last spring and it's still so good. Some brutal difficulty spikes at times and some unfriendly save point locations, but man. It really is one of the best on the console.
Mfs who think PS2 graphics is derogative never saw Ultimate Spider-Man
If you really want to insult visuals, you say Jaguar CD graphics
Not like anyone will prove you wrong anyway considering they're infamous for being broken out the box
PS2 was, in many ways, the high point of the graphics race. Art style still mattered over fidelity, and texture artists were more important than polygon count. Add in RT for "realism" and I think that's as good as visus ever need to realistically be outside of VR.
Hmm, PS2 games... Armored Core: Last Raven, Final Fantasy X, Grand Theft Auto 3, God of War 2, Grandia 3, Tales of the Abyss, Ace Combat 5, Gran Turismo 4, Katamari Damacy. Yeah, all 10/10 games that hold up super well.
PS2 graphics as an insult is funny, because a lot of the games did push graphics in that day and ageβ¦ But they also had unique art directions and styles. It was a really enjoyable era for stylistic choices, and Iβd love to see more games focus on art direction over photo realism.
I use it as an insult only in newer games. I am not going to pay 70 bucks for a game that I could have bought for 30 bucks at game stop back in the day.

Apparently it has some issues on PS5 though

PS2 UI is an insult.
Thats hard. π¬
Uh.. I need to think about it.

I say that but Iβm biased towards pixel/2D graphics, puts me off until I play the game. π
