Statistician here. 95% agreement on anything is demographically impossible in a prosperous society. 95% of Americans cannot agree on free healthcare.

The CNN story features an IDF soldier describing in gruesome detail driving a bulldozer over hundreds of people "dead and alive". But CNN gave readers a trigger warning only about that soldier's friend committing suicide.

(They later updated the trigger warning to cover "suicide and violence")

That feels even more egregious than the article itself to me tbh. Like, the article in concept sounds like it could be sneakily anti-genocide the way it casually drops evidence for it & highlights the way it harms even the people doing it. But that trigger warning thing sells the game.

I feel like most Americans imagine whole cloth what Israel is and then compare that to what the Israelis imagine Palestine to be, and determine policy based on those two fictional countries. And the reality is quite different.

I don’t think CNN’s characterization is accurate — but only based on my skim of the source survey.

Barring a correction from CNN, I assume that its reporters and the editors know the survey far better than I do, and have reasons for why they chose that particular paraphrasing….

…That said, taking the survey at face value doesn’t reflect much better on the Israeli public opinion. it’s expected most think protecting the hostages is the main reason, but 2x picked “to focus on the northern front” as did “great cost of human life”
