Other than the service academies, US unis are not federal. If we come up with our own money, we can (in principle) do anything we like with DEI. But it’s not just grants. Almost all (a lot) our students receive some federal aid. It’s hard to see many surviving with zero federal funds.

The reason I ask is I include botany jobs in a weekly newsletter. I still see some US universities asking for diversity statements etc, so I'm thinking not to include any US jobs now that don't.

I can see how that impacts recruitment for federally funded projects, but for posts that don't have federal funding, in theory, that's a state issue, not a federal issue, isn't it.

Quite a few of the jobs I see are not NSF funded, so DEI should remain a choice.

That kind of logic doesn't apply. This is about leverage. Most of what they're doing breaks contracts or the law or both.

Also, any job ad appearing now was likely approved and submitted weeks, if not months, ago. I’m hoping unis don’t give in but many will.

He is likely to remove funding if any recognizable DEI position exists regardless if it’s funded. The campaign against planned parenthood is an example

They can deny all federal funds and support, and then they can harass with civil rights investigations. Any college or university, state or private.
