Only because they didn’t call about 50 others during the game. You expect them to ref one way all game and then change it for final play? Pistons have smartly tried to turn the series into a rock fight and dare the refs to call 100 fouls. Can’t complain when you don’t get a whistle on body contact.
I’m not even saying that it’s been one sided in terms of the no calls. But Pistons want this to be a physical, loosely called series. It’s good coaching strategy. If the refs are calling games tight and series is made less physical, Pistons don’t have the scorers to go toe to toe with the Knicks.
Falling behind in games, letting them go on big runs was pretty much the series. Take care of business by limiting self inflicted turnovers the missed call at the end wouldn't matter.
Yes, we all know there was contact. We all saw it. But the way the game was officiated for the duration, there was absolutely no way they blow the whistle and hand the Pistons the game there.
If they had called it tight all game, we wouldn’t even be in this scenario.
I know they can’t review everything…but the impact on the result AND the ease of addressing it with a review, is precisely the same here as it was for Gordon’s dunk yesterday.
I just re-watched the entire game. I saw 8 fouls that should have been called on the Pistons, 3 of those on Hardaway. I counted 3 fouls that should have been called on the Knicks. So there you have it, JUSTICE prevailed. Now stop fucking crying and score more points Pistons
Smh. Just bad. And the problem w/ the “they let them play all game” defense is that allowing physical play benefited BOTH teams defensively. Not making the call on the final play tho gives a clear advantage to one-side. Add that the contact was on a jump shot, not a drive, and it’s more impactful.
Like don’t get me wrong, the Pistons did themselves no favors, and KAT and JB made some incredibly clutch shots to take it. But let’s not pretend that wasn’t an egregious, series altering screw up by Guthrie. This series should go 7 and now we’ll be robbed of it bc of crap officiating.
But Detroit didn't get screwed. Just because it was the last shot of the game doesn't make it special. If the refs didn't swallow their whistle in the 3rd the Knicks shoot 10 more fts, eliminating Detroit's momentum on their run. The refs were consistent the whole way.
C’mon, (1) Sure the Knicks could’ve had some free throws earlier, but so could Detroit (see Cade’s ft).
(2) There would’ve been an entire quarter left to play even if refs got tighter w/the whistle earlier.

Again, Knicks made big shots down the stretch. But let’s not pretend Detroit didn’t get screwed.
*And no Brunson fan can ever complain about “foul bait” lol
