Since this is a safer place, I'll finally talk about my "biggest" nitpick I have with the gaming community:
Review scores are arbitrary and the community's understanding of them is just stuck. I HATE that the only relevant marks seem to be 8 and up.
5 SHOULD mean what people usually take a 7 for.

There's that notorious story about Obsidian not being paid a significant bonus because they scored like a 97 instead of a 98 or whatever.
I'm probably botching it but that's the gist, ridiculous.
I got out when I was told the score I had given was wrong, and I had to increase it by 2-3 points because it was a beloved game and expected.
To be clear, they didn’t want me to rewrite the actual review. That apparently didn’t matter.
Still fuming.
Some of my favorite games are “low” and games with super high scores have failed to click.
1-4 = bad
5 = average
6-10 = good
but no, I do agree with you
as a kid i loved just picking up random games that looked interesting. just the cover had to look cool, with some interesting description and i'd be sold. didn't know anything about it besides the cover, and i had the best time haha.
in Finland school is graded 4-10, with 7 being the "not good but not bad either", so I often forget games can get grades lower than 4

I like reading reviews and seeing positives and negatives from their point of view but obsession with scores is just so annoying
If a game gets a 5? Nope, that's a must avoid! It makes no sense to me lol.
