The client then submitted it to the State & Federal regulators without the archaeologist being aware of the changes. It wasn't until a reviewer contacted the archaeologist with a question that the modifications were discovered.

Let not corporations nor government erase our heritage this way. 2/

As archaeologists (or other scientists) we are responsible for our work & the reports we put our names to. Not only is it illegal for a client to change what we write, it is also unethical of our employers to significantly modify our conclusions & recommendations. 3/

Let me clarify. Our bosses/clients can question our conclusions & recommendations. It is through discourse that we resolve disagreements. Several times I called out the CRM firm for which I used to work for their recommendations on sites. The Discovery site was one. If I hadn't told the PI...4/

she hadn't done her homework on the culture & how unique the site was & shown her the data to prove it, it would have been destroyed, along with all the burials.

Sometimes we lose the discussions, but we must try. If we feel our stance is true, we can request our name be left off the report. 5/
