In my column for next week's paper, I initially gave Emilia Perez a 3 out of 5, but then remembered that I gave Battlefield Earth a 3.
I enjoyed Battlefield Earth considerably more and can't in good conscience rate them the same, so I gave Emilia Perez 2.75 out of 5.
I’m totally serious in unironically mildly liking Battlefield Earth.
It’s heavily flawed – the plot is contrived and the pacing is terrible – but Terl is a very fun antagonist, I like Barry Pepper’s confident, nimble persona, and the film has many exciting and occasionally clever moments.
Especially since this one bastardizes the entire transition process.
If you like good movies, give this movie a 1/10. If you like trans people, give this movie a 1/10. If you like Mexican culture, give this movie a 1/10.
Does a trans character try to seize the means of production and try to feed kids worms for some reason? That would be pretty bad ngl but I'd prefer it over most of the transphobia I've seen in general media over my lifetime.

With Emilia Perez it’s just depressing
