I'm not too sure on early access these days. Some game genres do really well with EA, others don't, and I think I'm halfway between the two 🤔

That’s understandable! I’ve not seen things from a dev perspective but from what I can tell early access works well if you’re in a position to interact a lot with the community and do regular updates so I would imagine it’s not easy for indie devs.

I try to keep an eye out on things. Like I know farming sims do really well in early access, but then I asked on a JRPG subreddit and I think it was maybe 1/50 people that would get it for story focused games.

I’d agree with that, I suppose the best story in the world can be derailed if the game mechanics and gameplay itself aren’t fun. I think my experience with JRPG’s specifically has been that the interfaces are often overly complex which can distract from the often stunning game
