Idea: We need to do a direct action about crossing MLK and Adeline, traffic division is pretty clear they need more dead bodies on those stretches and I bet we could pressure the new Mayor/Benny to step up.

The city has an existing, funded project to address and signalize those crossings, with the main barrier being staff to move the work forward faster. Hopefully things will get better on that front soon.

Sadly, Berkeley’s Adeline quick build separated bikeway application to the state Active Transportation Program this year wasn’t awarded funding, with a score of 89 out of 100 points.

The city also applied to Alameda CTC’s CIP for $2M in funding for this project, so hopefully between that + Measure FF it will be able to move forward anyway.

Do you have photos of that bike filter / median combo? We had a recent meeting where most committee people felt the suggestion we should do one of those for a street with bad left-turn conflicts was like, the most lunatic idea they’d ever heard.

Remarkable, honestly. For ped crossing I'd say like 90% (though I'm usually pushing a stroller).

For bikes it's closer to 60-70%, off the top of my head. Which is crazy because they have the ROW.

As I said, I've seen it happen once, but I'm there very frequently. Some of Berkeley's other diverters have much lower compliance (anecdotally speaking, obviously).

The way that intersection currently runs is the bike route has a stop sign and cross traffic does not. How is a 4 way stop there a bad thing?

I like the yellow buffer as a centerline. I think it could be a good application for one-way Class IV’s that are just separating the bikeway from an adjacent general purpose travel lane in the same direction too, since yellow is used for a “fixed object in roadway”.

yellow is only used on left side of roadway for direction of travel. they used it here since both the bikeway & driveway are each only going in one direction, but if that weren't the case for either, then it would be white
