I'll never forget seeing a rough-cut of the Jennifer Lawrence movie CAUSEWAY. A very straight forward "talk-y" drama.

The number of rough/unfinished VFX shots would truly astonish you. But watching the finished film you'd have no idea there was any VFX at all (other than the leg replacement).
CGI doesn't "look like" CGI. It doesn't look like a Marvel film.

Sure, it does -- when that's what the storyteller wants.

But 99% of the CGI you've been seeing for the last decade is seamless integration in practical background plates on movies that feel "real"
