I think part of that is the dismissive attitude toward anything non-Western in medicine. Ex: I had a great chiropractor who taught stretches and encouraged PT. You can blend these things without being woo-woo and there is a growing body of research to support some traditional medicine.

That part is likely just the obvious response to medical trauma during pregnancy. As a country we really don't have the same protections that other countries do, and the result is that the one time a healthy person encounters the medical system, they are treated horribly and gain a disability.

Honestly, my take on MLMs now is to just let them scam each other. 15 years ago when it was my cohort getting scammed, you had to dig a bit to find info, and there were constantly new MLMs that no one had complained about yet. Now there are podcasts, movies, subreddits, etc.
