They will ask nothing whatsoever of Russia. They will weep crocodile tears about the lives that will be lost and the infrastructure that will be destroyed. They will blame the victim and demand that Ukraine capitulate to this. /2

What they will not do is recognize that Russia has the power to end this war unilaterally. They will not acknowledge that Russia can withdraw right now. They will not concede that Russia has the power to not send drones and missiles to kill civilians. /4

The part about Russia as a simple force of nature is an extension of the belief that the end of the Iron Curtain was illegitimate and that Russia's natural order of things is to dominate other ex-Soviet and Warsaw Pact countries. To defy that dominance is to defy the natural order categorically
