wild that there are historians that think they can just opt out of “DEI” as though inclusive history isn’t the gold standard for cutting edge work in our profession.

I’ve been arguing with my science colleagues about how they’re just going to cut those terms and “pivot” and I’m like without them I can not do any of my historical work. And I would not and will not either.
What I have learnt recently is that some science folks are more concerned with keeping their jobs than resisting oppression which I guess is why I’m a humanist. But fellow historians doing the same? Abject.
After the breathtakingly open racism which is still stunning to me, I can’t get over the betrayal. These people embrace segregation and the violent Trump project, and just say so, right to the faces of their students and colleagues? “You don’t belong here or matter, and I’m good with that”??
