Over the last month I’ve learnt a lot about people who should care and obviously don’t care and that’s the end of some relationships for me.

Today I am working on this little ray of sunshine, an Elton cardigan by Joji Locatelli in yarn from Neighborhood Fibre Company in Baltimore.

Also, any historian of psychaitry (cough) will gladly tell Mr. Silver the problems with standardized testing like IQ and it's racist underpinnings. But hey, don't let the ACTUAL historical facts get in the way of your dumbass techbro hero worship 🙄

Nate Silver continuing to be an embarrassment to his “profession” while knowing nothing about the historical one I see.

I told OPM what I did last week

I feel like Elon has been taking management lessons from @altassdeans.bsky.social

I hope he enjoys reading the 240 page decision documents from each case they’ve ruled on last week including the ones that declare his own stupid actions illegal

Are you bored tonight? Send your five accomplishments, maybe your shopping list, or your five thoughts on Elon from the past week to OPM at [email protected].

This is how I would respond to the email Musk has had sent to government employees (not legal advice). 1. Refused to violate the law. 2. Refused to violate the Constitution. 3. Refused to bow or scrape. 4. Refused to bend a knee. 5. Deleted this stupid email.

Christ on a cracker it’s no wonder the rest of the world thinks Americans are idiots because 75 million of them voted for this and also where is my transgender operation?

The reply email inbox for this “what did you do last week” email is [email protected], so, you know, definitely don’t send them any unrelated messages that would interfere with their ability to carry out Elon’s dumbass bullshit

Well these are quite something. Gooey and crackly with extra crunch from the caramel as it sets. Recipe is It’s Hollys “black ass brownies with dulche de leche” from her Desserts book.

Well I don’t know what you’re doing with your Saturday but I’m making Holly’s “black ass dulche de leche brownies”. Ping @profgoldberg.bsky.social

movies you’ve watched more than 6 times, gifs only

I’ve spent the morning writing: working on my Keywords talk and scribbling in my journal and have quit feeling sorry for myself/overwhelmed by it all. The rest of the weekend I’m reading this and remembering the power we have as historians and writers.

The attacks on DEI are a pretext for a much more radical agenda of reversing the gains of the civil rights movement, an objective the Trump administration is pursuing with zeal. A Great Resegregation. www.theatlantic.com/politics/arc...

While we’re standing up could we also stand up for the humanities who can help explain how we got here and why we shouldn’t cave?

Judge Extends Block on N.I.H. Medical Research Cuts www.nytimes.com/2025/02/21/u...

Todays NYT “strands” game making a very pointed comment 😳

The only job a black person can have that’s not a so-called [redacted] hire is slave.

Just as long as you don’t want to do anything about race, gender, equity or diversity. It is heartbreaking that an actual humanities funder would precapitulate to the fascist dictatorship. What are the humanities for if not to teach us how to RESIST!?

NEW: A program officer inside NIH sent an anonymous message to grantees with some updates and requests for patience. "This is the most stressful work situation most of us have ever been in," it reads. "I know this is tough, but please hang in there with us."

It’s hard to explain how exhausting this all is. 10 years of being a single immigrant has left me financially precarious. 10 years of being the model minority, of trying to fit in, of putting my heart and soul into my work, producing 3 books in that time. My sister says it’s just a job but it’s not.

So will all the grant funding and academic bodies who pre emptively complied reverse course now?

This muthafukka really doesn't take a bad shot.

Finishing a terrible week on a lovely note: page proofs for #dolessharm. We did good @cethompson.bsky.social

two drafted NEH applications down the toilet

yet another reminder that an EO is not law and no one should be doing a single thing to change their research or teaching or DEI programs. Do Not Comply In Advance.

Un fucking believable (entirely believable)

Following a loud public outcry about job cuts at the National Parks Service — and a relentless media campaign from outdoors enthusiasts across the country — it looks like the Trump administration has blinked. via @jackdolan.bsky.social

This slimy duplicitous cretin with his false analogies is also a trained physician....

It also strikes me that the same people who are using 1984 as the playbook are also the same people who saw Terminator as a vision not a warning.

I’ve given up on people reading history but it looks like they all read 1984 and took it as a How To guide.
