The destructive effects of Trump's presidency will also reframe domestic realities across Europe. Take France, for example. They estimate they might face war w/ Russia in 5 yrs. B/c of Trump. This means they have to re-engineer their economies. There's already talk in France re: the safety net.

So America's actions have the combined effect of driving Europe into a recession, as well, just as they need to move to wartime economies. And movement towards wartime economies--and movement towards war itself--means life has fundamentally changed for the French. Because of Trump.

I lived in Europe during W. Bush. I knew what it was to be ashamed of being American. B/c my country was fighting an unjust war in the M.E. that would most certainly have quagmire effects. I know what it is to apologize for being American. But Bush was not directly wrecking the lives of Europeans.

You won’t bring the rest of the world down. Plenty learnt from GFC, and many countries don’t have the US as a primary trading partner. It’s gonna hurt, a lot, but globally not as much as say forty years ago. Militarily the hard power will be marginalised by inept strategy + pro Russian President

I'm not sure it's never happened before. The collapse of the Roman Empire was at least in part self inflicted and had terrible global repercussions with reversed living standards - including no indoor plumbing for another 1300 years. But it wasn't as quick, certainly.
