We need more games with bosses we can't kill. Like nobody should be able to kill this one random guy. Make it so difficult it takes communities months to theorycraft how defeating this guy would even be fathomable.

Permadeath mmo. In order to unlock a new region, someone in the world has to defeat a boss. Once the boss is beaten, the next region is permanently opened. There's severe diminishing returns on xp to make grinding useless. People would definitely play a real Sword Art Online.
I think that happened in WoW when Wrath of the Lich King was out. Took people 46 days to beat the final boss, The Lich King! And then another boss the 4 horsemen i hear took 7 weeks for people to beat it!
Doesnt sound like that much but imagine millions of people playing and trying every day.
I'm think more like the Fel Reaver in Burning Crusade. A giant demon mech that wandered around the first area of the expansion and would just step on you.
I made a demo for a Zelda-like Flash game in college. I made it so that if you stab the wise old man who gives you hints, he turns into a spider. Technically, the spider had finite hit points, but it was something like the maximum value for integers. I never confirmed that it was killable, lol.
There's a boss in Labyrinth of Galleria postgame that chases you through the floor, destroying walls and doors and is basically invincible. Does an enormous amount of damage, mostly 1-hit KOs. Even if you manage to defeat it it just explodes wiping your party

Love it when games manage to invoke strong emotions while playing! I feel it hits harder than any other medium.
