That's great, but exceeding demand some time and not being enough in other times is precisely the problem with renewables, so I wouldn't be so positive about it. The extra energy is wasted and contributes to decreasing the value of renewable investments

No it’s not wasted. It is used to charge batteries used at night, as you can see in the graph, or otherwise exported for use in another state..

So again, what is the problem with renewables?

What I said earlier. Batteries are expensive, and as renewable penetration gets higher they will need to cycle over longer periods with shorter cycles per year and higher cost per cycle. For a successful renewable energy transition we have to be honest about these problems

Again, it all depends on the relative rate of batteries getting cheaper vs being used in less and less valued use cases. If you use a battery to move a kWh from one week to the next, you only cycle it 50 times a year, and the cost per kWh becomes much higher because it will be idle most of the time
