yeah…. it cool an all that there are less dummies here but it’s still lacking a lot of the content that i want to see. hopefully things pick up steam and we start seeing more people make the move.

pretty much every band/artist/company i’ve searched for here doesn’t have an account. i’m sure there are some mainstream folks on here already but i tend to be into things that are a little more off the beaten path.
I love that it mentions a crochet group. I started one with a friend a few years ago. It was just the two of us drinking beers and slinging yarn. 4 years later and we have collected about 15 crafters. It's the bright spot in every week. Badass women who are fierce allies and fantastic crafters.
This reminds me of when ppl would say reddit is an echo chamber, meanwhile you had chains of subs dedicated to just making fun of other subs. Me_irl didn't allow certain topics? Ppl made 2meirl4me_irl while editing posts from the original to be "more relatable," then ppl made 2meirl42meirl... etc.

Yep there is a sort of New Twitter project to try and destroy this place too, but iirc they have like a few dozen followers and are probably just each other, some bots and one or two people of questionable awareness of them
I heard people complain you'd only get 100 followers max on Bluesky. Do these people not realise that even with their 1500 followers, their whining got like literally 3 people engaging with it while over here most followers engage?
Do MAGATs really think screaming lies and propaganda count as "debating"? Nobody wants to put forth the effort to have an actual debate with somebody who isn't listening, doesn't care, and is just waiting for the moment to void their bowels on the floor so everyone knows their shitty opinion.

Really the best way to get the most out of this app is to spend time looking for and following people that share interests. And before you know it, your feed will be full of awesome :D
On the right hand side of the screen, look for discover, then look for "More Feeds" in blue. If you click on that, you'll see options for book sky, cat pics, gardening, etc. There are lots of different feeds for different interests.

This has been my experience as well! I'm (relatively) new here, and the respect with which Blueskyers treat one another has been an invigorating breath of fresh air....a complete 180 from the cut-throat free-for-all on X.
And there's a different culture here as to folks who want to import the nastiniess of twitter. Just block. No need for that type of unpleasantness and blocking doesn't convey the "oh, the person who was blocked 'won' the exchange." No, they were just a jerk and needed to be blocked. 😉
It depends on the "opinion" in question. If it's along the lines of Q was right and Trump won in 2020 and also is a demigod and schools are transitioning trans kids during lunch breaks, I just block immediately.
Same with Linkedin- it’s been overran by far righters corporate shills. None of which can really hold a conversation anymore. It used to be you could at least find someone to debate you someone intelligently. Now they just jump to the nearest fallacy they can fine.

BlueSky is a drop in the bucket compared to sleazy apps like Twitter, Facebook and IG. So far BlueSky is pretty weak. The news feed is pathetic. The video feed is a joke. They could do much better

I feel like the porn also needs to be mentioned, since Twitter over the past year has been pivoting towards being what can best be described as a Christian Minecraft server, whereas the only real rule about NSFW is to self-moderate
As much as I would like this to be the case I think the best example that this is not the case is simply observing how many academics themselves behave: it is either primarily posting or ragebaiting similar topics as everyone else is. How authorities and experts feel free to discuss tells a lot

The very last time being on Twitter was not a chore was when Netflix cancelled Dead Boy Detectives and the fanbase rallied together: however sad, my feed was suddenly filled with people sharing one passion, drowning out the trolls. From there, it was downhill.
You literally can control your feed and what you see. The algorithm then suggested content from that. I would suggest taking the time to find what you’re interested in and going from there.
