I worry that the XR industry, as a small part of the broader economy, will inevitably feel the impact. At this stage in its growth, it may not have the resilience to ride it out. It remains a highly diverse and inclusive community with a diverse and inclusive developer network prone to scrutiny.

I watched Part 1 last night & it's a really good intro. Yarvin tends to monologue in most interviews, but this one with the NYT reigns him. He's an atheist who wants an "accountable monarch," but we'll likely get Christian Nationalism with an unaccountable dictator.

oh god his knowledge of history is so flawed, just listening to a bit of this, the interviewer's doing a great job but yarvin is acting like apart from the holocaust, strongmen haven't done that much harm, and examples presented to him don't shift him. yarvin is effective and obfuscation though.

...i mean, the way he describes the "freedom" of el salvador! jesus. motivated reasoning hardly begins to start describing his purposefully narrow view of what's happening in that country. anyone can be put into a megaprison for no reason whatsoever, and have no legal recourse.

The key flaw in my mind in understanding government through the metaphor of a corporation that produces goods. Public services like health insurance don’t follow the same market logic as an Apple laptop, & so his “accountable CEO” analogy is a dream being used to justify ruthless dictatorship.

exactly, it's not at all supposed to work like a corporation, that's counterproductive in a lot of ways. but many capitalist-obsessed folks believe it's some law of the universe where competition flourishes without regulation and it'll get the best results no matter what.

thanks, yeah his beliefs aren't tethered in reality, there's no such thing as an accountable monarch. america already has one, presidents are enormously powerful, as long as they further the overall project of global dominance. and how accountable they were to citizens is arguable.
