Here's the group discussion that four winners of the Polys Ombudsperson of the year had about XR & AI Ethics, as well as general XR industry trends. I speak about how Meta is pinning their commitment to XR based upon the success or failure of Horizon Worlds at the end: voicesofvr.com/1523-xr-ai-e...

My new Friday evening ritual is watching @lawfare.bsky.social's recap of the lawsuits against the many illegal actions of the Trump executive branch. Whether judges will take action beyond the "forest for the trees" is one of the big open questions & themes this week. www.youtube.com/watch?v=rHTe...

Great 5-minute primer explaining order behind the chaos and Silicon Valley’s Playbook to Destroy America’s Government. @gilduran.com connects the dots between neoreactionary Yarvin’s RAGE (Retire All Govt Employees) and DOGE (or Destruction Of Government by Elon as he calls it). youtu.be/OC629l-wZBQ

Great thread unpacking the frontlines of the legal pushback against DOGE’s digital coup. @lawfare.bsky.social’s coverage of Trump’s trials & tribulations showed that they only needed justice delayed for justice denied. These wonky battles will likely go all the way up to SCOTUS, and then what? More👇

Highly recommend @lawfare.bsky.social's one-hour recap of all the dozens of lawsuits fighting the illegal actions of the Trump admin. Some victories that will likely work their way up to the Supreme court, & unknown how far their "Unitary Executive" theories will go. www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bGP...

Great post unpacking Curtis Yarvin's Butterfly Revolution playbook that's being implemented right now. Makes sense of the chaos: 1. Install a CEO Dictator 2. Purge the Bureaucracy 3. Build a Loyalist Army 4. Dismantle Democratic Institutions 5. Seize Media and Information Control to Maintain Power

Thinking a lot about A THOUSAND CUTS documentary, which documents why @mariaressa.bsky.social won the Nobel Peace prize for resisting Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte’s war on the press. Worth a watch if you'd like some #RESIST inspiration & doomscroll escape: www.youtube.com/watch?v=JQpj...

#1519: “The Reality of Hope” Sundance Short Doc Features Journey from VRChat Friend to Organ Donor voicesofvr.com/1519-the-rea... via @kentbye.com ft. @joeahunting.bsky.social

A blast from the past from @antonhand.bsky.social here. Digging up footage from 2006 of what looks to be pretty intense FPS using an old school CAVE system (Cave Automatic Virtual Environment). He's been thinking about immersive game design for nearly 20 years now!

The REALITY OF HOPE short doc is premiering at Sundance, and it tells the story of a VRChat friendship that lead to donating a kidney. I spoke to @joeahunting.bsky.social & @maxfilmsvr.com about the beautiful story of @photographotter.bsky.social & @hiyu.bsky.social: voicesofvr.com/1519-the-rea...

I accidentally linked the wrong audio, & it should be fixed now. The ideas Agnes talks about have been stirring in my mind for the past 5 years, & they feel particularly prescient when thinking about "What's truth?" We also spec out the "Immersive Socratic Experience" voicesofvr.com/1518-the-soc...

Knowledge comes from believing truths & avoiding falsehoods, but these are two separate algorithms that require a dialectical process. It's the core of the Socratic Method as expertly elaborated by @agcallard.bsky.social in her new book "Open Socrates." Our deep dive: voicesofvr.com/1518-the-soc...

@taylorlorenz.bsky.social I saw you lamenting the loss of your favorite Instagram filter. Meta killed off Spark AR & never announced a replacement, which is odd considering how much they’ve invested in a broader XR strategy. Creators suspect they’re more interested in AI slop. Here’s some comments:

I will have an interview about this film dropping around Sundance, and the online tickets have been opened up today and definitely recommend grabbing a ticket to the Docs Shorts program if you’re based in the US. Definitely worth catching if you can.

The number of times this conference, which was the best conference I've ever attended, has gotten fucked by acts of god in the last 5 years is just unreal.

Heads up for immersive folks: "Due to the ongoing fires and humanitarian crisis in Southern California we will not be convening The Next Stage Immersive Summit next week in Pasadena, Jan 17-19, 2025... (For those who don’t know, we’ve been in the same position before in 2020 and 2022 with COVID.)"

A short doc on the #VRChat 48-hour film jam by @madamekana.bsky.social is about to premiere on YouTube. www.youtube.com/watch?v=bwyf... Here's a link to all of the films that were made. My favorite one is "20/20" sci-fi with HER vibes starting at 23:30 www.youtube.com/watch?v=6wYa...

Pretty comprehensive survey by @freya.bsky.social of how Generative AI is polluting Google and Bing search results with around 80% content about *.glb files being AI slop. Lots of deep thoughts on GenAI being a parasitic cancer erasing humanity & ruining the Internet: www.youtube.com/watch?v=-opB...

We’ve put a lot of sweat & tears into this year’s lineup and are pretty proud of the results. Indie creators sharing the stage with folks from the biggest brands imaginable. Big theme park & game designers rubbing shoulders with folks who do theatre in their apartments.

I haven't had a chance to ever watch the full #VRChat NYE livestream, and after it airs, then it's hard to track down as they don't typically post it. So I made a copy of their spreadsheet and made some notes as I watched the 16 hours today & posted video links ICYMI: docs.google.com/spreadsheets...

Great overview of Process-Relational ontology, with Kant guarding the threshold between @footnotes2plato.substack.com and @kentbye.com voicesofvr.com/1183-from-ka... #Philsky

This was a really incredible convo with my favorite philosopher Matt Segall. First 80 min is a brief history of philosophy from Plato, Aristotle, Descartes, Kant, Hegel, Fichte, Schelling. Then onto Whitehead & Process Philosophy for an hour, & ends with Segall’s POV: www.youtube.com/watch?v=DeTm...

I've now posted all 25 episodes of my Voices of VR podcast series from IDFA DocLab featuring 19+ hours of coverage on the latest immersive non-fiction & digital storytelling experiences, including three interviews on the latest trends in LBE distribution & 9 AI pieces voicesofvr.com/1492-idfa-do...

Great list of immersive and interactive storytelling projects from this year curated by Columbia Digital Storytelling Lab's @culturehacker.bsky.social

The first severe case of #H5N1 bird flu in Louisiana was someone who "had exposure to sick and dead birds in backyard flocks." The CDC says "No person-to-person spread of H5 bird flu has been detected." Currently low risk, but stay away from sick birds. More tips below: www.cdc.gov/media/releas...
