Few things are more beautiful and more impressive than a great blue heron. Need a fast-ish shutter speed to freeze the long feathers. I love photographing them. #photography #birds #wildlife

Yes, they are quite lovely...a bit less so, though, when they skewer two of the largest Koi in the pond and, startled, leave without eating them... It's okay now, though -- netting installed and there are plenty of Tilapia in the bigger pond out back!
I had "my own" pair in a nearby park where I'd enjoy them nearly every evening. Great company, watching them raising their kids and sailing the sky for me alone. Dinosaurs.
It's work catching those great shots, waiting for the opportunity and the right light. Seeing is one thing, catching the right shot is another. Well done!
I'm not only a photographer but more importantly an addicted fly angler who spends about 140 days per year on the water & tend to share that water regularly with Great Blue Herons. They always know the best fishing spots & I learned to follow them there...
I had one in my backyard the other day. He was looking to eat my pond fish so it was a good thing there was a layer of ice keeping him from getting a snack.
When I was a child in the 60’s, there was a great blue heron at the “Crooked Lake” (creek) a mile from our house. It came for some years, but then we never saw another one again. Not anywhere. Not until the past few years have they repopulated. Likely the DDT. Same with bald eagles.

@jakespectre89.bsky.social
can stare for as long as they stay
resulting in a beautiful photo
I love them.
This shot is amazing.
One of the coolest things I’ve ever seen is 30-40 of them nesting in the trees near Stanley Park in Vancouver BC last year.
But srsly, it was incredible and I highly recommend. They nest in the same place every year. You could probably get some great shots.
