The books Iβve read by Becky Chambers and Nathan Lowell are slice of life, low stakes but the world and characters still make me want to live in those world with those characters.
Andy Weir and Bethany Jacobs books have more plot. Jacobs writes female characters that are fully realized.
For sure anything by Andy Weir - Project Hail Mary in particular is epic and very accessible for people new to the genre! The Murderbot Diaries by Martha Wells is also an awesome starting point - and theyβre mostly novellas, so theyβre low-commitment! πͺπ
I just made a thread yesterday with all the series Iβve read this year. Although not all sci-fi/fantasy, theres some zompoc/distopyian end of the world series in there.
