When the history of the Tory Party's decline from 2015 onwards is written, I very much hope much of the analysis will dwell upon the sheer number of their MPs who turned out to be crackpot fuckwits as a principle cause.

"Boris Johnson: 'Every Tory election candidate has pledged to back my Brexit deal' " [The Telegraph. 16 November 2019].
There may have been other criteria used when selecting Conservative candidates, but that was the overriding criterion. It was the sluice gate through which flooded the madness.
Not so long ago, Jenkyns was minister responsible for higher education. I still can’t quite believe that. Possibly the least suitable person for such a job ever.
Not well enough regarded for them to explain Channel 4's charter to her in words she could understand though. Either that or she just didn't bother reading the briefing.
And, er, have you *read* any of her writing?
I can foresee many discussions at learned conferences on whether it was the crackpots - or the fuckwits - or those like Jenkyns who synthesised these two qualities who were more influential and did more damage.
I bet Dame Judi Dench and Dame Maggie Smith were spitting feathers when that was announced.
Could be worse though, she could be in the House of Lords like a log of other Tory lackwits, lickspittles and by-blows.
99% of Tory fuckwittery over the last decade has been based on confusing the opinions of the highly engaged right with the opinions of the country as a whole.
The old Tory party was paternalistic and elitist, virtually all of their MP were aristocratic or adjacent.
It is when they started to democratise their parliamentary party they seemed to have sucked in all these anti intellectual loons. What was the mechanism for that?
Sort of. There are a couple of further right parties, and policy-wise they’re a bit closer to the dems, but they effectively occupy the same spot in the political landscape over here.
The rioting is taking place in England and Northern Ireland, with the far right being the cause in both cases, but in England it’s being pushed specifically by English nationalists. In Northern Ireland it’s a very strange mix of the usual loyalists and far right Irish nationalists.
Hot Fuzz was set in a fictional location but filmed in Wells (which has a Liberal Democrat MP) and largely inspired by Simon Pegg's upbringing in Gloucestershire which now has three Liberal Democrat MPs, three Labour and just one Tory.
Pegg's home village of Brockworth is in the sole surviving Tory seat, largely due to it being a new seat causing confusion as to who was most likely to to defeat the Tory - MRP polls consistently suggested Labour was the challenger whereas in reality it was the Lib Dem by a wide margin.
She seems to be complaining about the state of the country after 14 years of Tory government and 4 weeks of a Labour one. I wonder which one gets most of the blame?
But would that it were merely a headbanging shortage of grey matter:
With most (and increasingly, to the point of all: see Tugendhat) it was a heinous, willing, eager participation in the corruption, corrosion, wrecking & looting of the country.
Had to go back to Twtr to check she'd actually said that, as it seemed too barking even for her. But no, you post is an honest grab of her tweet. Utterly deranged ... or just posted as clickbait I guess. Vacuous noise machines.

They might learn something & become a decent opposition able to keep the govt on their toes
Because that's what we need them to be - not the ludicrous sham of a party it has been since Boris took over

If you can think for yourself or dear to think we are Debating it then you're out
That was the point of no return for all of us
There is nothin' like a dame,
Nothin' in the world,
There is nothin' you can name
That is anythin' like a dame!

Scottish nationalism is a centre-left, pro-immigration internationalist movement. We have some far right idiots, but their numbers are few.

when it gives every impression of being from the far side of ... Mars.
I marvel at what must be going on in her mind. I genuinely can't imagine.
There's probably inspiration for a very dark Disney's Inside Out 3.
