I did a bit of planetary imaging last night, capturing Venus, Mars, Jupiter and Saturn. The seeing was pretty poor and Venus and Saturn didn't turn out very well. I'm fairly pleased with Mars and Jupiter though. #Astronomy #Astrophotography #Space

Venus and Saturn were fairly low at the time, which probably made the seeing worse. It is interesting to see Saturn with the rings edge on though. Mars shows some reasonable detail, with the Syrtis Major feature easily visible as well as the north polar cap.
My gear isn't particularly good for planetary imaging but I give it a go from time to time. I use a Celestron NexStar 6SE (a 150mm / 6" SCT) and budget planetary camera (GP-CAM1). It's nice to be able to capture features on the planets, even if the images are quite small 😀
Yea, possibly. I'd have to learn how to do that though 😀. An atmospheric dispersion corrector would probably help too for targets like these that are low down. Maybe one day I'll get better planetary kit and then work on improving my processes.
