I very much enjoy the nationwide government cuts to PhD funding being presented as a Cambridge problem. I just hope the plucky institution with its £2.6 billion endowment is able to cope.

Yeah, I notice US VCs starting move in on Cambridge, it's not going to be short of cash by any means. Meantime we've an exploitative as fuck academic system that does the grand sum of fuck all for the people it trains if they're not the lucky few.

That training is fast just becoming a way for companies just getting cheap researchers as well, cutting back on self initiated projects to focus on 'partnerships' (the studentship I got for art is now for either a technofabric project or an AI gallery project so just a way to launder money from...

I think these things vary a lot by discipline, but in general I agree that there has long been a push for everything and everyone that comes out of a uni to be "industry focused". We need space to explore ideas regardless of their potential to lead to a spinout company or industrial partnership.

Yeah I think art in general, and our uni in particular, are a particularly bad case, the new Dean opened his tenure by doing an opening the uni a&d conference by inserting AI into everything he talked about whilst not mentioning find art once and has halved the art students.
