This is making me furious. I had several years worth of intense speech therapy due to my deafness. It helped me to catch up with my hearing peers and reach my full potential with a Master's degree.

This includes things such as speech therapy, occupational therapy, behavioral therapy, etc. These types of therapies help kids with disabilities such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, speech issues, delayed processing, etc learn to adapt & accommodate their disabilities so they can succeed in the classroom.

They are NECESSARY to successful learning!! I know this first hand b/c my son has been in OT since he was 4 yo. I have seen first hand how it has allowed him to overcome challenges, cope w/ the frustrations that come w/ being differently abled, & thrive where he otherwise would have fallen behind.

My child is one of the smartest people I’ve ever met, and I’m not just saying that because I’m his mom. He literally has the potential to change the world. But he needs help to reach that potential, and that is ok. But this bill will hurt kids like mine. This bill punishes kids for being atypical.

So what they are doing is illegal. States don’t get to decide what is or isn’t in an IEP. Federal law, IDEA, essentially says that if the disability warrants necessary services to meet IEP goals, then it has to be provided regardless.

There will be lawsuits.
