It's really cool because I get to take sci-fi hive world problems and solve it through a historical / medieval lens. Like access to clean water must either be impossible, or it's harvested by specific guilds or factions, and most of the dwellers are just always drunk from fermented beverages.

Oh and timber is going to be hard to harvest! There can be 'wood gangs' that specialize in making expeditions across the world to find sources of wood to process either by tearing it off other structures or stealing it from sanctuaries, all for the royalty in the upper levels.
