Because we didn’t collectively love Pillars of Eternity 2 enough, I think that Avowed might be interested in us but feels like that would be cheating on Pillars of Eternity 2 with its murderers.
The more support Avowed gets, the more support the setting gets. In a dream scenario this means another isometric and/or funding for the tabletop ruleset Sawyer has been tinkering with for years.
IMO I think it depends on how it's succesful - if it leads to Deadfire getting a surge in popularity as a result, there's still a chance (besides I'm dubious that Obsidian is just going to do 1st person ARPGs forever when Pentiment was so recent)
thing is Pentiment was probably like 1/20th the resources/time that Avowed was, I suspect Obsidian has a One For Me thing and an isometric RPG is a little too big on those grounds
I'd argue they can still point to, like, BG3 if there is a lot of noise about how an isometric game would do (I'd mention anything by Owlcat too but I admit I doubt they're the kind of financial hits big studios like to see)
It's been so disappointing seeing critic after critic heap praise on Avowed while basically admitting they never played Deadfire; like, okay, the PoE games are never going to have the success and love they deserve, but Avowed was announced *five years ago* - everyone had time to check the series out
I’m really hoping Avowed is really successful and leads to a sudden boost for the PoE games. I know I’ll be pushing all my friends towards them if they enjoy Avowed. Dream world would be that it leads to more CRPG and Avowed style games in the world. Maybe even other styles as well.
