All automatic first downs should be eliminated. Also cut out DPI on under-thrown balls. If a receiver has to dramatically slow down or stop to make the catch and the DB runs into him, that’s on the QB.

DPI should just be a 15 yard penalty. Giving the refs yet another factor to have to discern is asking for trouble.

If you were good enough you wouldn’t be a wild card (see Vikings last year). Winning your division has to mean something. You don’t want to be a Wild Card then take care of business.

If you’re good enough at 14-3 then win your division. The Vikings got exposed for NOT being that good in back to back games. They deserved to be the Wild Card.

Eh, disagree. To me it makes more sense flipped: if you're good enough to win your division and want a better seed, then go 14-3. May make games more meaningful after teams lock up the division. Winning the division would still mean something, a playoff spot even if your record wouldn't do it alone.

It also punishes people in tough divisions. Lions could actually win the North in a tough division and have some team with a weak schedule kick them to a wild card spot. Fuck that.
