The reason this group of folks weren't included in the benefit structure is because they did not pay into SS due to other pension systems. This is another policy that democrats were shamed into voting for, which will be funded by the rest of us.

Not true. This is so we can get our benefits from the years worked outside of our pension careers. The years we paid into pension, but not Social Security are not included in our years of service, but prior to this bill we had an offset even on the years we worked before or after in private economy.

The point is that your pension AND now the full SS benefits you will receive (but did not fully fund) are more than the benefits that SS recipients receive after contributing to the fund their entire lives, in addition to depleting the fund faster and reducing their future benefits.

Confusing, but full means our full amount based on years outside of a pension, not full meaning an average full benefit of someone who only had SS. I paid into for over 40 quarters, but could not receive my 40 quarters benefit until now.

Social Security is not a linear benefit. It benefits lower income workers slightly more as a percentage of their average income. By having a non-covered pension, the original formula makes you look like a low paid worker and pays you that extra benefit. WEP compensated for that unfair advantage.

No, we will only get partial SS for time we paid into with the minimum 40 quarters met. SS is not one set amount, it depends on earnings in and quarters worked. My 12 years outside of my pension were just like anyone else's work. My pension years (31)don't figure into my SS total at all.

I contributed to Social Security for 30 years and taught for 16 years. SS took $200 from the amount they pay me because I have a partial pension. I hope I get it back. I earned it.

Because as a postal employee that receives a pension that I pay into just like SS, I would only receive a portion of my SS instead of the full amount. Same goes for a lot of civil servants. This is correcting that.

Thanks, Joe, and really thanks to everyone in passing this law. Surprisingly, this law was truly bipartisan. The House voted to pass it 327-75 (🤯) and the Senate voted 76-20. It will likely be the last bipartisan law to be passed for a while and may be all for naught if DOGE gets its way.

With accurate SS records and software they didn't have in the 80s WEP could have been modified to be fair and accurate. And this was an opportunity to properly fund SS into the future, not shorten it by 6 months and not even try to fund the $200billion it costs over ten years.
