Usually I have to REALLY make sure any joking comments are super super clear they are a joke, it's way harder to read someone's tone than to hear it so it's understandable if someone misunderstands.

Way too many people don’t realize that unless they’re actively friends with someone, their “just a joke” “playful rudeness” just comes across as actually mean spirited.

Like even when it IS super obviously a joke, I don’t find it funny because we don’t have a relationship that works for that.
