Yeah I don't have the numbers in front of me, but the PCE CPU was roughly the same speed as the MD. To put in perspective, the SNES I believe was as fast as the Sega Master System! One thing I don't completely understand is that the PCE can handle roughly twice as many MIPS compared to the MD.

yeah they got up to some real nonsense with that thing simply because you could get close to the metal on the CPU. It did what it was supposed to - run a bunch of calculations quickly! The snes had great hardware extras with scaling, transparency, rotation, but that did come at a computational cost

I always show legend of xanadu II. soundchip aside, it shares more in common with early PSX/Saturn releases than it does with its initial contemporary, the famicom.

That's enough for me to put it on my backlog and seek it out. Even if I can tell some of the limitations (I work in tech but I'm not a dev), it's immersive enough to make me forget those limitations, which is the point.
