I am currently suffering tendinitis and neuropathy in my left arm after a tragic rollerskating accident coupled with diabetes (long story).

It currently feels like it has been broken in two places and then set on fire.

I know you are in the hospital, but I hope that you do get to enjoy your birthday. Please do not use your PCA too much, that you go into overdose mode. One of my patients did this, luckily naxalone brought her round.
