Presumably they’ll release a new set of historical national accounts using the new methodology (in order to avoid showing a sudden drop in GDP), and it will be possible to verify how these can be adjusted back to the original ones.

I don't understand any of this. If you think Govt shouldn't be in GDP (stupid, but whatever), there are already ways to look at GDP ex-Govt spend they could emphasize. Why needlessly stir up market panic about manipulated data.
