Vijayanagara is one of those incredibly interesting historical states where contemporary discourse is just absolutely doomed to be shot through with Hitler particles (hindutva version)
It is kind of funny how comparatively less well known these wars are given the just much larger numbers of people involved and the (at least before the birth of European colonialism) much larger stakes
This is even really kind of underselling it because the Vijayanagar Empire fought a bunch of wars against other Indian Sultanates as well including the ones that approximately succeeded the Bahmani
Yeah, succession of states is a weird thing. If we include them, then it is around... 3 more war until the battle of Talikota and subsequent fall of Vijayanagara?
It's crazy.Vijayanagar may have been the largest city in the world for a while. Totally lost in english language historical discourse, way more so than like, the Song dynasty or the Ethiopian empire, etc.
