I've written and rewritten this post so many times over the last 24 hours because it's hard to capture the profound impact @joyannreid.bsky.social has had on journalism, broadcast media, and our collective consciousness. 🧵

I’m sure you know MSNBC bookers will be calling you to appear in the future. Only you can make that decision. However, in light of what MSNBC’s actions, I hope you respectfully decline.
It’s really hard not to view this “change in direction” as tacit support for the segregationist agenda of this administration. I cannot top the sentiments of Ayanna so I’ll share this as you move onto bigger things, “step in your essence and know that you are excellent” - Beyonce
Thank you for this. So many of us are devastated by her departure. Your personal affection and insightful reflection articulate what makes Joy special. Let’s all take to heart the recommendations she and her guests shared tonight. Make good trouble for OUR democracy. No silos. No despair.
Joy, your brilliance is undeniable. Your clarity, a call to action. Your laugh, infectious. Your essence, inspiring. You carry the legacy of Ida B. Wells & Gwen Ifill with grace & power. Every night you boldly made space for Black women—& you made us all feel seen, heard, powerful, beautiful, & fly.
That’s why the cancellation of your show is so devastating. You didn’t just report the news—you told our stories, ignited righteous indignation against injustice & called us to action. You challenged us to lean in, listen actively, think deeply & demand more—of ourselves, our communities & our govt
I’ve read that this was done by the new leadership of MSNBC for “declining ratings”. To me this proves that mainstream news outlets are not about the actual news and truth but instead about the revenue generated by a product they push. I have followed more sub stack journalism in the last 2 years…
due to my looking at not only what the outlets are saying but also by what topics they are avoiding. Who they talk about and how says just how a lot about what is not being told. I see this as another reason why I am moving on from the past bastions of liberal journalism.
I know that whatever she chooses next will be fully supported by the base she already has built. She'll add to that base with whatever does come next. I, for one, am very much looking forward to see what that is. @joyannreid.bsky.social isn't done yet. To quote a colleague of hers: #WatchThisSpace
I am deeply grateful for your truth-telling, your authenticity, and your unwavering light. And I am grateful for your dedicated staff—the people behind the scenes who helped bring your powerful voice and vision to life every night. Their work mattered deeply, too.
Joy-Ann Reid, you are a real one. I’m blessed to call you sister-friend, and I can't wait to see how God orders your next steps. Keep shining, sis. We'll keep pushing—especially when it’s hard, especially when it’s inconvenient—because it’s necessary.
I have a feeling this has opened the path for Joy Reid to start her own media company & it will be a big thing. MSNBC just created their biggest competitor and I’m here for it! Can’t wait.
I have missed her since we have stopped watching TV news/commentary, mostly because we can't bear to be assaulted by video of the orange one. I wonder if there are many like us and executives misinterpret an exodus? I'm not coming back to TV, but I'm ready to be a paid subscriber for her journalism.
