NATO has used Ukraine to bleed Russia's economy through a process of slow encroachment. Ukraine was meant to be a neutral buffer zone between blocs, part of their condition for giving up nukes, but NATO has no interest in keeping that deal... or in supporting Ukraine when the chips are down. 2/3

at the outset my reaction was "America wants Russia to bleed a la Afghanistan 2002- forward, the Ukrainian state is too nationalist for negotiated surrender (and their allies wont allow it) and the business interests want mass privatisation". being right tastes like ashes in my mouth :/

Honestly, I wonder if Russia goes as hard nationalist/fascist as it has done if, in the past, the West didn't take the view of "We must destroy Russia utterly in retribution," and instead took the approach of integration, like Germany.
