Good on Ed Davey and the Lib Dems for challenging the U.K. Government. The Tories lost badly following their streams of lies, deceit and disinformation. The Labour Party would do well to remember this.
I’m not convinced about Lib Dem’s in Scotland either. My new MP Angus MacDonald has done nothing since elected and didn’t bother turning up for the vote on the 2 child cap
I guess that’s just a quick and predictable (in £ terms) way of restricting the spend. How else could they administer a scheme with wider eligibility? Maybe via an income limit, similar to how they administer child benefit? Very messy, though, requiring tax returns… 😱
They'll fail, of course, due to the size of Labour's majority.
However, they could make a lot of noise about it, which when combined with general disquiet about the rest of the October budget could make life uncomfortable for Starmer, as he is represented as "continuity Tory".
I won't qualify for winter fuel allowance this winter. Am not complaining. We all have to pay for the legacy of tory misgoverning and mishandling of the economy, by sharing the pain.
There's no way the policy will stay as it is. It's grossly unfair. Tax the rich to raise the money instead. Labour attacking the very poorest in society is not a good look.
