I don't thing Streeting is interested in safety. PAs are cheaper. He is influenced by US health care, if you can call it that and US business mangers. None of which have saved the UK taxpayer any money at all.

A practice nurse or nurse specialist is safer. These PAs only do 2 years medical training but they don't tell you they aren't doctors so people presume they are

The one we saw certainly implied he was well qualified. 4 months later, a treatment he prescribed resulted in my OH being rushed into hospital by ambulance in the early hours of the morning. We changed doctors.

It’s not complicated. If you don’t have full training you’re not in possession of the full facts/experience.
There’re stages of learning & experience that are supervised & monitored throughout any career.
Skipping steps is a big mistake. If there’s no evidence then there’s no check system in place!

I was an Advance nurse practitioner , ordered X-rays & blood tests, assessed, diagnosed , prescribed , interpreted results , admitted people to hospital , home visits etc for £18 ph , bargain !

Improve pay/conditions & the needed workforce will stay.
When they leave in droves it increases the pressure on the ones who remain until they too decide it’s just not worth it = appointments & surgeries cancelled, waitlist ⬆️

The article doesn't mention surgery - "According to the NHS, they should work under the supervision of a doctor and can diagnose people, take medical histories, perform physical examinations, see patients with long-term conditions, analyse test results and develop management plans."

That’s what they *should* be doing. AA’s are anaesthesia associates so it stands to reason they are in surgeries.
