Those vocalizations sound different...like they mean different things. Has any analysis been done on wolf howls to see if we can figure out what they're saying?
I walked a nature trail one day heading to the edge of a lake. Suddenly a deer ran past me making shrieking noises at full sprint along the edge of the lake. Suddenly a giant grey wolf came out of nowhere at full spring. I was 30 feet away at a dead stop. I was awestruck, and not eaten.😁
I had a similar experience several years ago except it was a coyote, not a wolf chasing a deer. Deer ran right past me in an all out sprint, coyote closing in. Coyote saw me, pulled off & put distance between us & stared me down. Deer escaped & I took a really bad pic of coyote before it ran away!

An impressive species. It's not much of a leap to go from loving the domestic canine to respecting a wolf's god-given right to not only survive, but play a natural role in any healthy ecosystem. (Yellowstone Natl. Park is just one example where wolves play a vital role.)

I have to share whether u like it or not. Love of my life was Rio a black and white cocker. I bought a wolf hand puppet- big! Named him WOLFY.’ Best BEST toy I ever gave him. Oh mahn I miss him every day- all day. Fur babies- just pure love
That's why I can't get another dog I can't go through losing them. Or the thought of going before them and knowing nobody is going look after them like you do

Had a 1/2 Border Collie, 1/2 Wolf. Named Daisy. Sweetest dog God ever made. Yet on occasion she would sit up and let out a howl that made people stand up. Even those who knew her would look. If you can, go to somewhere where wolves live, and wait. If you hear, you will never forget. Vaya con Dios
Although obviously still related to the grey wolf, he was a chihuahua. But he never yapped, rarely barked and only howled when I played said instrument. He was the calmest dog ever. He even watched the fireworks with us and rode shotgun in the car.
I just hope they're a female before someone has the idea of taming them.
