I feel like there will always be at least a small number of outlets, but they’ll likely be in the pockets of major corporations or flaky start-ups.

Yeah it was a stark reminder of just how things have continued to change. There is an over abundance of everything now adays in the gaming world from games themselves to media around it. It's super over saturated in general making it harder for things to kick off or stay around.

Was just thinking this while looking up guides and articles related to an older game. There was so much *thoughtful* content created around it, both from larger sites and the community.

For more recent games, it’s difficult to wade through the muck of clickbait and shallow “influencer” content.

Yep, it's become a sea of content garbage that you have to literally sift through and it gets to the point where it's so overwhealming you don't even wanna do it anymore.

In a perfect world you’d see more things like Kinda Funny happen where game journalists/personalities form their own outlet and it works out for them, but those odds for most are skewed incredibly.

I think smaller shops are going to do fine but the mid level ones are in deep.

I’m part of the problem as I moved away from mainstream gaming sites. They don’t give me the info I care about and friends have been much better at recommending what’s good.

Yeah true, I don't honestly go to most sites but also most YT or streams. Just people I know or have gotten to know online.

Same here. Honestly the main sites are corporate stooges. Most of them suck up to people so hard you never get a real review.

Add that with them caring about stuff that isn’t something I care about when I see reviews and it’s been a recipe for me moving away for years.

We need actual journalism, but with what that costs, the best gaming media can achieve right now is PR with a "promise" to try to be unbiased.

We need news but the best both traditional media and "content creators" can achieve is infotainment and opinion.

Not sure. I still use some gaming sites but it’s also hard when content creators have way better ways to showcase news. I think the bigger issue i seen is too much clickbait headlines

Like Game Informer or something like that? It has to evolve. Be interactive or different in a way we don't see.
